There are many ways to iron-on Rhinestones onto clothes. The most common way is to use a household iron, you can also use a special appliactor, soldering iron or a press.
To apply motifs
- Rhinestone Motifs
Lay the garment on a hard surface like the dinning table
Peel the motif and place the sticky part onto the garment. This can be moved about till you have the postion you want.
You can either cover the motif with a thin material like a hankie or apply heat directly onto the plastic. the plastic is heat resistant so wont ment.
Apply HOT heat for 10 to 20 seconds depending on the type of material. Then reverse the garment and re-apply heat for the same length of time.
Let the motif cool for a few minutes then gently peel the sticky plastic. if you find that the rhinestones are coming off also, then re-apply heat for a bit longer.
Once the sticky tape is off apply heat directly onto the design to ensure that the crystals havnt become loose while peeling.
FOR STUDS IT IS THE SAME PROCESS BUT APPLY med TO hot HEAT FOR APPROX 5 TO 10 SECONDS ONLY. FOR SMALLER STUDS YOU MAY NEED TO APPLY HEAT FOR ONLY 5 SECONDS ON BOTH SIDES.
NOTE -- If you are not sure about the material then try on a small piece or on the inside to make sure that the material will not burn in the heat.
- Apply Rhinestones with an IRON or PRESS
Place the garment on a solid surface like a table.
The best way to apply is to place the rhinestones onto the garment where you want to create the effects, then cover with a thin material like a hankie. Then apply HOT heat direct for 15 seconds on both sides.
for Fine fabrics apply heat for 10 to 15 seconds on each side of the fabric
for heavy fabrics apply heat for 15 to 20 seconds on each side of the fabric.
Let the rhinestones cool for a few minutes then check to ensure the glue has melted well and embedded to the material. if it hasnt then re-apply heat.
- Applying rhinestones with an APPLICATOR - Kandi Kane, soldering iron
Change the tip on the applicator to the size of the rhinestones. then just place the tip over the rhinestones on the garment, within a few seconds you will feel the glue has melted, lift the applicator off the rhinestone and let it cool. once cooled you will see that the rhinestones has stuck well.
This is a good way as you can be geauranteed that the rhinestones would have stuck well. the drawback is that you can only apply one at a time.
AFTER CARE - To ensure that the crystals stay as long as possible on the garments, you need to take a little care when washing. Reverse the garment so that the crystals to not rub against other items. Do not put the water heating to high as this may make the glue soft and the crystals may come off.
DO NOT TUMBLE DRY, as the heat is very hot and you will definatly find rhinestones coming off in due course.
The rhinesones stick differently to different types of garments / material. For t-shirts and shirts , you will find they stick very well and should last a very long time.
STUDS - Studs are a cheaper alternative but they do not shine as brightly and they do not last as long. Some studs stick well to garments but in time you will get them coming off, this is due to the fact that they do not hold much glue at the base.
