Wedding canapés should you double dip

Is It Right To Double Dip

Sun 05 Feb 2012

The trend for dipping canapés is now bigger than ever. From Cumbrian sausages to apricot risotto balls you name it you can dip it. But the problem is these canapés are always too big for the one dip. So the question on the blog this week is. Is it right to double dip? In other words should you dunk into the sauce more than once? Is it bad manners, is it a health hazard and more importantly do you double dip?

Hen Night Destination Unknown - Whetstone

    Thu 12 Jan 2012

Well thought it was about time for another Hen Night destination unknown blog as it’s been a while. So this blog post is all about a Hen Party in Whetstone. Whetstone is situated in the Borough of Barnet N20 North London one stop from the end of the Northern Line. Providing ideal transport links in central London. Not overrun with Hen Do’s at all but still packed full of great restaurants and bars providing a great location for the btb who wants a more toned down affair.

It has got a couple of the typical chains including Ask and Pizza Express however it’s also got some great independents. Whetstone has got the soon to be opened Stone Marquee along with the well-established Italian restaurant Alfresco. If you’re looking for something trendy and on the posh side then try The Haven. Once you and the girls have finished you can carry on in the Griffin or Three Horse Shoes. Or even go past the houses with 2 million pound plus price tags to the Orange Tree. Need accommodation not a problem Whetstone has a Travel Lodge with great deals even at the weekend. Traveling from outside the local area not a problem. Whetstone can be accessed easily from central London via the Northern Line. Traveling by car from the north then it’s straight down the A1 for you. Whetstone offers an opportunity to shop in central London during the day and then for a chilled out Hen Party at night.

A Tube Theme For Your London Hen Night

    Tue 03 Jan 2012

Christmas 2011 sore a number of my friends attend tube (London Underground) theme parties. After a little while I thought what a great idea for a London Hen Party especially if you are doing the Circle Line pub crawl. You could go as Patsy from Abfab or Amy Winehouse for High Barnet or a Green Witch for Grenwich. If you wanted to go as Cockfosters I’m sure we could find something for you. You could even go as a carnival queen for Notting Hill or A King for Kings Cross there are 250 stations to choose from so the ideas are endless.

What's The Worst That Could Happen At The Wedding Breakfast

    Wed 21 Dec 2011

Many things may worry you about what could happen at the Wedding Breakfast, your dads dancing, your brother’s inability to take his drink, even your best friend’s husband’s behaviour. But perhaps it’s your own actions as the bride you need to worry about. What do I mean well take a look at this YouTube video clip? After watching you might want to practice your aim and fill out your risk assessments.

    My Wedding Buffett Rant

    Sun 11 Dec 2011

O.K so this is my rant about poor wedding buffets. Not just any buffet but the evening buffet. Why should the evening guests be treated like second-class guests? Even if only invited them so you don’t feel bad. Today’s blog is about not letting the less desirable catering get away with it.

As Brides, Grooms and wedding planners why are you letting them get away with it? Get away with what you may ask. Well apart from lack of innovation and inspiration in the evening buffet. Should you be letting get away with left over sausages from breakfast being put on sticks with cheese? Should you let them be getting away with Sara Lee cakes only semi defrosted? At the end of the day everyone has to make a profit. But in my opinion sometimes they take it to far on the evening buffet. Is it right they use frozen produce from the cheapest catering suppliers around. Wedding planners start demanding handmade quiche and scotch eggs. Brides and Grooms refuse to book a venue that has no passion for food. Perhaps we should get Jamie Oliver to do one of him campaigns. Finanlly a big well done to those establishments that do put the effort into the wedding buffet.

Messing With The Wedding Cake Could You?

    Thu 01 Dec 2011

After all the hard work that has gone into finding the right cake and the work that has gone into making it. Not to mention all the money that you have put into your wedding cake. Could you and your new husband do this to your wedding cake?

    Mon 24 Oct 2011

The time has come yet again when Christmas joy will soon fill the air including the joy of the office party. Including the great tradition of secret Santa, which more often or not means a cheeky gift for under £5. Such cheeky gifts can include food, fun and games. Such gifts could include dare cards, macho man, secret Santa sweets or even cooking equipment. At the end of the day secret Santa is all about harmless fun. So why spend a fortune when you can even get free postage. So why not have a ,look around and take your pick.

Think Outside The Box For Your Wedding Venue

    Fri 14 Oct 2011

When it comes to choosing your wedding venue everyone thinks about Hotels and function rooms. But what happens when you start to think and look outside the box. You discover a whole new world of unique wedding venues that will make your wedding a talking point for years.

You could go just that little bit different perhaps a venue like the Physic Garden of the British Medical Association. But if you want to go further out side of the box perhaps a reception among the bones of The Natural History Museum.

If you don’t want to keep your feet on land what about a sailing barge or The London Eye. If speed & steam is your thing what about the National Railway Museum. For those of you who want a real unique experience why not try The Caves in Edinburgh. But most importantly of all choose a wedding venue that feels right for you, after all it is your day.

A #TOWIE Hen Night Could You?

    Sun 02 Oct 2011

It’s that time of year again girls when you either love or hate Mark and wish Arg would just loose that puppy fat. Once again The Only Way Is Essex has hit our screens. So has any one thought about having a #TOWIE Hen Do fake bake is a must, but white high heels are optional. What else would you need well let’s see a big bling ring, something to show your chest off? and of course something blonde.

Why not go that step further and get your girls down to Brentwood and party away at the Sugar Hut. The Bride and Hens could even join in at the Reem Party nights. So are TOWIE Hen Nights going to be the next big thing? Perhaps you could even be the next Sugar Hut Hunny.

Hen Night Destination Unknown - Cockermouth

    Fri 30 Sep 2011

The second of our Hen Night destination unknown blogs is the West Cumbria town of Cockermouth. This small market town on the edge of the Lake District is not only made famous by its name but also by the floods of 2009. But since the floods the town has revamped and renovated beyond it’s former glory and has something to offer every Hen Do. It’s has great lively pubs all within walking distance of each other. It also has more than 22 restaurants to choose from for your last night of freedom meal. It’s got a great choice of accommodation to, from the 4 star Trout Hotel to B&B’s and the Travel Lodge. Great times for the Hen Party are the July music festival known as Cock Rock or the Taste Cumbria food festival in September. There are great daytime activities available from spa days, paint balling and walking or why not take to the lakes for water sports. Getting to Cockermouth by Car is easy straight up the A1 to Scotch Corner and along the A66. Coming from the northwest or midlands then just take the M6 and exit at Penrith for the A66. By train you need to get to Penrith and then catch the X4 or X5 bus or you can go to Carlisle and get the 600. National Express also services the town with a daily London service. The council hasn’t made up its mind on an Airport yet so in the mean time Manchester and Newcastle are the best bets. But the best thing about a Hen Night in Cockermouth is it’s not over run with them and is suitable for Hen’s of all ages.

    A Caution About Weddings Overseas

    Sat 24 Sep 2011

Many people choose to have the big day outside of the UK. This adds a whole new ball game into planning the big day. You will have extra insurance to sort out flights, excess baggage charges and language barriers to overcome. However you will also have the local wildlife to contend with on the day. As this couple found out it’s not just the invited guests who like wedding cake

Hen Night Destination Unknown - Doncaster

    Tue 30 Aug 2011

Over the next few weeks we shall be posting blogs about the not so well known Hen Night destinations. Destinations that still offer you a great selection of nightlife and activities without being over run with Hen Parties.

Our first such not so well known Hen Night destination is the South Yorkshire town of Doncaster. Set close to the North Lincolnshire, West Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire boarder. This town offers a wide variety of bars, restaurants and daytime activities. Doncaster is often over shadowed as a Hen Do destination by its neighbours Leeds & York.

Doncaster is easy to get to no matter what mode of transport you use by car it’s situated close to the A1 and M62. For those travelling by train it has one of the best served train stations outside of London. With regular direct services from London, Scotland, Newcastle, York, Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield and Southampton to name but a few. If you fancy flying that’s not a problem as it has an airport close to the town centre. That isn’t over loaded with passengers and traffic like the major airports. Doncaster Robin Hood Airport is served from Ireland, Jersey, and Belfast City.

Great daytime activities are available in Doncaster and the surrounding area including Greyhound racing and horse racing at the centrally located racecourse. Ice skating and bowling are also available at Doncaster Dome. For those wanting something more flying lessons are available at the airport or why not try a parachute jump.

At night Doncaster is one of the most vibrant towns in the north of England but the best thing it’s not over run with Hen Parties. Meaning your Hen Party will stand out from the crowd. The town centre has a typical pub/bar circuit feel to it with a mixture of branded and independent establishments to choose from. For eating, drinking and dancing until the early hours. On top of this Doncaster Dome hosts a range of evening events and acts.

Doncaster has a range of accommodation available from Travel Lodges to B & B’s to more up market hotels often offering spa days. All in all Doncaster offers Hen Nights the great Hen Party experience any big city can without been over run with hens & Stags.

    Tue 09 Aug 2011

Do Scotch Egg's have a place on the modern day wedding buffet table? This is the question we asked a few weeks back on our Facebook page. If you want to join in and cast your vote just click here. To date 35% of people say yes but with a modern twist. Some 14% of you said why would you want something that looks like a gremlin pre birth on your buffet?. A further 7% of you said Scotch eggs rock and stop whinning you large food snob. Someone even said yes but just keep them up north. Why not take a look at the other responses on our Facebook page. And if you want to have a go at your own wedding day scotch eggs check out below.

The Changing Face Of The 21st Century Hen Do

    Wed 03 Aug 2011

As someone who organises hen weekends in Spain and, being of a certain vintage (but by no means old thank you very much), I’ve seen my fair share of hen do's over the years.

From my base in Spain’s Lloret de Mar I’ve seen and organised it all, from rampaging groups of girls who are not happy until they have a cocktail in their hands and are dancing on the tables of the local nightclubs, to more, how can I say, sophisticated ladies who want a relaxing break with some fine food and harmless fun. No matter which category you fall into, the fact of the matter is that the idea of a ‘typical’ hen do is changing – in fact I’m not sure if it even exists anymore! Adventurous Hens What do I mean? Well, people are trying new things. Sure you still will see the classic hen night – these will never go away, and why should they? Us girls love to party, especially when dressed up in hen bunny ears and hen party costumes like those found at Funky Hen. But you’ll also get hens doing things or going places they wouldn’t have done twenty years ago, like coming over here to Spain and going on a shopping trip of a lifetime; enjoying a blissful catamaran cruise; a spa pamper day or paintballing in the wild woods. The advice from Aunty is this: do what you want on your hen do. If you and your girlfriends love nothing more than getting oily with some hot strippers, playing a starring role on the karaoke stage and necking a few shots, do so! But if that doesn’t float your boat, or you want to do something totally different, get yourself out to Spain and into some fab activities, like hen quad biking or horse riding for example, or even a hen Paella cooking course! Don’t feel you have to abide by some sort of hen party code, just make up your own one instead! Celebrity Hens Just look at what the celebrities are doing for their hen dos these days. Lily Allen had hers at the Savoy Hotel in London with a cookery lesson included. Kate Moss went to the Isle of Wight music festival. Katie Price had hers at a Botox clinic (where else?). Do these fall into any sort of category? Of course not! Aunty Andrea organises hen and stag weekends in Tossa de Mar, Lloret de Mar, Barcelona and Playa D’Aro on Spain’s gorgeous Costa Brava. Sun, sea, sangria and everything your stag or hen party desires is yours: Aunty can make it as innocent – or as exotic – as you like! http://www.auntyandreastags.com/

    Surfs Up In Scarborough

    Sat 30 Jul 2011

The UK professional surf tour is coming to Scarborough in October 2011 and this is being used to promote the resort to a younger generation. The competion is being used by tourism bosses to raise the profile to the british public aged under 40.

So will this mean Scarborugh could soon become the Hen Night capital of the East Coast. Or could it even mean it will take the crown from Blackpool as Northern Hen Night coastal capital. Will pink sashes and flashing boppers with L-Plates soon become the norm in Scarborough.

In the mean time enjoy our Yorkshire surfing video you never know it may inspire you to go out and brave those cold Yorkshire waters.

What do you think leave a comment and let us know.

What To Do If The BTB Get's Stung By A Jelly Fish

    Wed 27 Jul 2011

A jelly of a Hen Weekend and I’m not talking of the normal kind of Hen Night jelly I'm talking about great big Jelly fish of the king size that sting. That’s right some of our best Hen Party resorts on the south coast have got some visitors from the deep blue sea. The resorts include the great classic destinations of Brighton, Eastbourne and Newquay. From our video clip taken from last year’s mini invasion in Brighton you will see these guys are on the somewhat large size. So you are going to need to air on the side of caution if having a dip in the sea and perhaps keep your shoes on while walking on the beach.

But of course the question all girls should ask on a Hen Night “ What Happens If The Bride To Be Get’s Stung By a Jelly Fish” . Well we are no experts but have found the following advice and I do stress it is only advice.

    1. Get out of the water. (note: you don't have to be in the water to get stung in the first place. A dead jellyfish on the beach can still sting you.)

    2. If the victim is having difficulty breathing or is experiencing nausea or dizziness (all possible symptoms of a reaction to the venom), call 999 or seek emergency medical treatment. A reaction to the venom is like any other allergic reaction. It's normal for the sting to burn intensely; that in itself isn't a symptom of a reaction.

    3. Remove any pieces of tentacle. You don't want to touch the tentacle pieces, so use a shell or credit card or the edge of a towel. Many jellyfish have clear or pale tentacles. If you see deeply-colored tentacles and did not see the animal that caused the sting, treat the sting as if it came from a man-of-war, just to be safe.

    4. Rinse the affected area with seawater. Do not use fresh water! This will cause any nematocysts (stinging cells) that haven't already discharged to sting. Fresh water may significantly worsen the injury. That's chemistry in action, too. Changing the osmotic pressure around the nematocysts will cause them to fire.

    5. You can use chemistry to inactivate the toxin in the venom. You are basically inactivating a protein, which you can achieve by changing its temperature or pH or by breaking it apart. Applying heat is the safest method of inactivating the toxin because it penetrates the skin and won't cause stinging cells to fire and release more venom. Hot sand works, too. If you are absolutely sure the sting came from a jellyfish, you can apply a weak acid or base or an enzyme to inactivate the toxin. Vinegar, baking soda, and meat tenderizer all work. Urinating on the sting usually does not work and is not recommended. One of the more recently recommended treatments is to apply lidocaine (such as you would find in sunburn relief products), which immobilizes the stinging cells so they can't release more venom while relieving the pain or itching of the sting. That is the method we used this time around (this was by no means the first time anyone in my family had been stung). The lidocaine worked very well.

    6. We followed up with Benadryl gel, since an antihistamine reduces swelling and can combat potential itching associated with the sting. Some people apply aloe or a hydrocortisone cream.

    7. Any of the usual over-the-counter pain relievers are good for pain.

    8. Of course this is only advice and you should also seek medical advice if in doubt.

    Another Day To Worry About?

    Mon 18 Jul 2011

Most people think the Brides most worrying day is the wedding day itself. I mean what else could she worry about. She’s got no need to worry about the Hen Night she’s got the best Bridesmaids ever to sort that. So what else worries a Bride To Be, well the best man is one. So now we are getting warmer to what other day the Bride To Be has to worry about. Still not got it. Well what do’s the best man organise, no not the ring bearing. I’m talking about the stag night. Have you ever worried about your future husbands best friends behaviour. Then I’m afraid you’ve got a day or even a weekend to worry about when it comes to the stag do. Just check out our youtube clip.

    The Worst Wedding Pictures Ever?

    Tue 21 Jun 2011

Wedding photographs are meant to be images that help you keep the memories of the special day forever in a special way. But some wedding pictures are special in other ways not because of the camera they have been taken with or who the photographer was. It’s because of who and what is in them what’s your favourite picture. We think the Wicker Man style bride on fire is scary but not as scary as the bride that looks like her cake.

    Hen Night Willy Straws

    Thu 16 Jun 2011

Hen Night Willy straws are a great way to raise a giggle at a hen do or girls night out. You could look for willy straws on ebay but some hen night retailers have had these listings removed by ebay. As ebay say they are offensive or is that ebay have no sense of humour. Most willy straws are about the length of a standard drinking straw but have a willy end to them. Our willy straws come in a great range of colours including black, pink, brown and we even have multi coloured willy straws.

Of course willy straws are a great way to give the bride to be a last chance blow on her last night of freedom. But our willy wonderland is full of Hen Night ideas. Including a willy pinata. glow in the dark willies, willy cake tins and chocolate willies. All of our willy products are not for the faint hearted or easily offended bride to be. But are very suitable for that outrageous mother of the bride.

    A Poultry Party?

    Sun 22 May 2011

In the past few years in has become the norm for the Bride To Be to have 2 Hen Nights. Often this would involve an overseas weekend and a Hen Party closer to home for those that could not make it overseas. But just a minute this tradition leaves some very key people out, yes the BTB's male friends. Have you not thought they may want to join in the fun? But a Hen Night is a girl's only event. So what is the new trend sweeping the nation it's the poultry party. Often held on a Friday night or afternoon after work. It allows a brides male friends to join in the pre wedding celebrations. Often a more low key affair it can involve something like afternoon tea at a posh hotel followed by a night at your regular pub. This is something my own wife did for the men in her office and it went down a storm.

Even though it is a low-key affair the Bride To Be and her friends can still enjoy some traditional Hen Night fun. Including dares how funny would it be to see your male friends doing the dares from a girlie pack of dare cards. So go on don’t leave the boys out invite them to a poultry party. The only draw back for them being a poultry party you can't call them Stags. Now what is a male chicken called again?

    Hen Party Do's And Don'ts

    Sun 15 May 2011

When organising or going on a Hen Night as the Bride To Be or Hen there are some simple rules to stick to. These rules should help you ensure everyone has a great hen night or even weekend.

Do make sure that you organise a night or weekend that the Bride To Be will be happy with don't go outside her comfort zone

Don't have it the night before the Wedding, nothing worse than saying your vows with a hangover. Plus the minister or registrar will not be impressed by the smell of stale Vodka

Do something special that non of you have ever done before

Don't do something you might regret the next day, you know what we mean

Do give the Bride To Be time to spend with all her Hens

Don't get hurt and break any bones

Do have fun and have a laugh

Don't get too drunk and forget everything that happens, at least not until the end of the night!

Do set a budget that all Hens can afford

Don't forget to thank the organiser as The Bride To Be

Stick to these Hen Party rules everyone should have a good but safe Hen Party.

WD40 Needed For This First Dance

    Thu 12 May 2011

It's our first ever first dance Thursday and this happy couple could be a little more loose I feel.

So You Got A Hen Night To Organise

    Tue 03 May 2011

So you've been given the task of planning thehen party. It's the bride's 'last night of freedom' so you’ve got to make it a good one packed with fun and games. Everyone is looking at you to make sure it all goes without a hitch. So now the pressure is on how and where to start?

Firstly speak to the bride to be find out who she wants to invite and well send them an invite. You can do this by the old-fashioned paper way or be ultra modern with facebook invites. If she has invited her mum or the mother of the groom not to worry you may have to tone things down a little. I mean not every mother of the groom is going to like a strip show but may tolerate a willy straw.

So by now you should have names and numbers next choose a venue. You will need to choose a hen night venue that has sufficient space for you and the correct sort of entertainment. Not only will you need to think about entertainment; you will also need to think about food, drink and accommodation. Again speak to the BTB find out what she wants and go from there. Brighton, Blackpool and London are some of the most popular hen party destinations. Due to the variety of entertainment and accommodation they have to offer.

Once all the above is sorted you need to choose a theme you could have no theme, a pink theme, a naughty theme or even a black & bling theme. But no matter what be sure to use the Internet to search for those hen night bargains.

    The Wedding Entrance

    Wed 27 Apr 2011

The usual wedding entrances at the church or wedding venue are fine but do you long for something different. Do you want your wedding entrance to be remembered do you want your entrance to be more memorable than your hen night?. Well check these guys out on Youtube have you ever come across anything better for a wedding entrance.

    Burlesque Hen Parties

    Sun 10 Apr 2011

Looking for a cool & funky theme for your hen party, then how about a bit of Burlesque. The costumes are amazing and sure to make your group of hens stand out in the crowd. Why not go the whole hog and take part in a burlesque class.

In a typical hen night burlesque class you will go through the very basic of gestures and movements and their evolution and transformation into Burlesque choreography. Many venues offer the use of bar facilities and the opportunity to stay on at the club.

A Burlesque Hen Party is suitable for hens of all ages so the Mother of the Bride/Groom and Auntie Joan can join in too. Many of the teachers also offer pole-dancing classes, which can be added on to your Burlesque session.

So, to achieve the Burlesque look you will need:

    1.       A Burlesque Costume (Corset, Tutu, Stockings & Garter)
    2.       Feather Boa
    3.       Sleek Wig
    4.       Nipple Tassels (optional!!!)
